Indian By Design

Design, is the way one looks at things. According to me Architecture, interiors or designing almost anything is composition of ideas. Interiors is no more about just arranging furniture and providing lights. Here we talk more about detailing, precision, ambience and so on. Its not only about painting the walls red. Some one has said “God is in details” how true. A well detailed product not only enhances the aesthetics but defines the cause. For us to be able to take interiors and Architecture to the next level, involving the above is the key. Our practice (Nikhil Juvekar Design Associates) keeps focus on Indian Contemporary designs which seems to be forgotten over years. Many of the current designers are shying off from traditional ways from the fear of being called “Desi”. We see houses with imported furniture, hardware sourced straight from the market and following the “brands” seems to be the new trend. Have we ever wondered how ancient Indian architects been able to create masterpieces without modernization. The accuracy and proportions are simply stunning. Contemporary design has been largely misunderstood as foreign or imported designs for that matter. A modern client feels proud to fill up spaces with art, furniture etc from all around the world but India. Interior Design is more about customizing a space and not only about following standards. Design according to me should be flexible and free flowing and free from self restrictions and that’s what I call as modern design . I have been romancing Indian Contemporary design since quite a while. I enjoy the simplicity and diversity of spaces. Each space designed is different and unique in its own way. It’s a beautiful concept to imagine having the ability to create meaningful spaces.
